DREAME A2 Robot Lawn Mower

Dreame A2 Robot Lawn Mower

Imagine a summer morning. You open your shutters and discover a perfectly mowed lawn, without having to lift a finger. No perimeter wire to install, no complicated beacons to configure, and not even a cable connecting the base to the robot. This scenario, which was only a dream until recently, is becoming a reality with the Dreame A2, arguably the most anticipated robot lawnmower of 2025.

Last year, the Dreame A1 made a splash by disrupting a market dominated by lawnmower giants. But the Dreame A2 takes things to the next level. This model isn't just stylish or innovative; it's a true technological breakthrough. Dreame has drawn on its extensive experience with robot vacuums, adapting advanced obstacle recognition and intelligent mapping to the world of lawnmowers.

The result is astonishing. The Dreame A2 operates completely autonomously, without ground wires, RTK beacons, or restrictive installations. This level of precision and reliability is almost unprecedented. Where other brands still dream of achieving this degree of freedom, Dreame once again demonstrates its mastery of artificial intelligence and intelligent navigation.

Feedback after 2 months of daily use: Excellent product! This is my first robot lawnmower, I waited at least 1 year before getting started (big investment), comparing, watching videos, reading comments... in the end my choice fell on the Dreame A2. I hesitated with the Dreame A1 Pro which would have been enough in my case, but I started with the A2 to take advantage of more recent technology and therefore keep it up to date for longer.

Dreame A2 a design from elsewhere

Design-wise, the Dreame A2 looks exactly like last year's A1. You don't change a winning team, and Dreame has retained its famous futuristic automotive design, with a pronounced wheel arch and contained dimensions: 70 cm long, 44 cm wide, and 27 cm high. Even the rear section evokes an automotive feel with this light that crosses the "trunk area". Weighing a little over 16 kg, it is equipped with a metal handle for easy lifting. The design is successful, but one small improvement that we would have liked to see is the addition of a carport, unfortunately absent from their offer to protect the mower from bad weather and the sun. Rest assured, for the rain, it is autonomous: its sensors detect downpours and tell it to return to its base.

Dreame A2 Artificial Intelligence and Lidar

What makes all the difference is the Dreame A2's onboard technology. The second-generation Omnisense Lidar is at the heart of the innovation. While the first version was already brilliant, this one promises even more. For those unfamiliar, Lidar uses a laser to map the environment, much like a robot vacuum maps your home. Here, it maps your entire yard.

But that's not enough. The addition of a 3D detection camera with integrated artificial intelligence is what changes everything. AI, often a buzzword, is fundamental here. Dreame's experience in robot vacuums allows them to detect extremely fine obstacles and adapt strategies according to the obstacles encountered, whether inside a house or, in this case, inside your garden. How to recognize the edges of a field? A change in terrain type (where the grass ends)? An obstacle? Tell the difference between a plant and tall grass? Recognize a ball? This is what Dreame offers with its technologies and experience, and it's a real game changer.

The Dreame A2 robot mower is completely autonomous and cordless. And while some competitors boast similar performance, our tests of other models in 2025 have shown that there's still a long way to go. What allows us to move forward with the A2 is that the A1 was already exceptional and remains relevant today.

Impactful mechanical innovations

Beyond Omnisense 2.0, other new features deserve attention:

  • Hub Motors: The wheels now feature an integrated motor. Without changing everything, this allows for better power distribution. Where the A1 climbed 45% slopes, the A2 can climb 50% slopes. This is a definite advantage for hilly terrain.

  • Edge Master System: Our loyal observers will have guessed it, this is another borrowing from the world of robot vacuum cleaners, with that famous rotating pad that cleans wall baseboards. Here, the concept is applied to the garden: the cutting disc can move sideways to "lick" as close as possible to the edges. Although there will always be an unattainable gap (no robot mower replaces a rotofil), the A2 should reduce this gap significantly compared to the competition. The cutting diameter is 22 cm, which is rather good outside of the Edge Master system.

A slight disappointment with the cutting height , which is adjustable between 3 and 5 cm. While 3 cm is perfect, 5 cm may seem a bit light for hot periods when we like to leave the grass higher to protect it. Six centimeters would have been the norm, seven or eight ideal. Positive point: the adjustment is done directly via the application, in 0.5 cm increments, without a manual button.

Methodical mowing and robust autonomy

The Dreame A2 robot mower is a methodical mower , unlike random models that bounce around on edges. It can follow the path of your lawn and perform U-shaped or grid-like movements. The app even offers options for creating mowing patterns on large lawns.

It has a fairly large battery, announcing a theoretical capacity of 3000 m². In practice, we are talking about 1000 m² in one day in full mode, and up to 2000 m² in 24 hours in fast mode, obviously with recharge cycles. The 5 Ah battery is replaceable.

Advanced control and comprehensive application

The Dreame A2 lawn mower can be controlled in two ways: via the integrated screen and its small dial (with a PIN code to prevent theft), or mainly via the app. The latter is very advanced:

  • Fun menus: Easy access to mowing efficiency, cutting height (adjustable between 5 and 7 cm on the interface, but the test indicates 3-5 cm actual), and programming.

  • Simplified installation: No perimeter wire, no RTK antenna. All you need is a power outlet. Leave a little space around the base so it can recharge comfortably.

  • Mapping: The automated mode had difficulty with certain obstacles like solar panels, which led to the preference for manual mode . This mode allows you to control the mower with your smartphone to follow the edges and let it discover the boundaries of the land. For complex gardens, this is the way to go.

  • Mowing settings: Adjustment of height, mowing direction (cross, checkerboard, etc.), activation of automatic border mowing (Edge Master), obstacle avoidance.

  • Fine obstacle detection: Lidar adjustment to detect obstacles from 20 cm, but also the possibility of activating very fine detection for obstacles less than 5 cm, crucial for toys or small animals.

  • Mowing speed: Capable of mowing between 120 and 200 m² per hour.

  • Smart Return: The Dreame A2 returns to mow areas it was unable to cover initially due to a temporary obstacle (such as the presence of the person filming).

Dreame A2 a real-time user experience

The Dreame A2 is quick to set up: it takes 30 minutes from unpacking to the first mowing after mapping. The larger the area, the longer manual mapping will take. It is recommended to leave a gap of about 10 cm from the edges to avoid scratching the mower. For the first mowing of the year on long grass (10 cm in the test), an equalization mowing is important so that the robot does not mistake the long grass for obstacles.

Mowing is carried out in methodical U-shaped movements, ensuring optimal efficiency. Large obstacles such as trees are easily detected. Flowerbeds or sensitive areas can be included in the mapping as exclusion zones.

The noise level is 55 decibels , which is frankly reasonable and won't bother the neighbors. Mowing schedules can be adapted to your needs. In addition, since the mower is connected via Wi-Fi, you can monitor its operation on the app.

Advanced connected features

The application offers a host of settings and options:

  • Cutting statistics: Track mowing sequences and consumable status.

  • Smart Protection: Rain protection (can be deactivated), anti-freeze mode, “do not disturb” mode (from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. by default), reduced mowing speed at night.

  • Custom charging: Since the mower is plugged in 24/7, you can set charging periods to take advantage of off-peak hours, a real plus for your electricity bill.

  • Security and tracking: Lights on/off, automatic recharging after prolonged standby, real-time GPS tracking on Google Maps, alarms in case of lifting or card exit (potential theft).

  • Security Camera: An unexpected but awesome feature! The mower can act as a mobile security camera. You can activate alerts in case of human detection and even manually control the mower to visit your yard and see what's happening live, wherever you are in the world (4G/5G).

Unbeatable obstacle detection

The obstacle detection tests were astounding. A ball, a children's toy, a 10 cm plastic Rubik's Cube, a very thin water pistol (3 cm high), or a small car 5 cm high: all were detected accurately, with the mower stopping or changing direction immediately. This ability to adapt to its environment in real time is a considerable advantage.

A dreamlike assessment

In terms of coverage, on a single charge, the mower managed to mow around 200 to 250 m², with a little extra in fast mode. In one day, with three charging sequences, we can expect to reach 1200 to 1300 m², approaching the 2000 m² advertised over 24 hours including nighttime.

The Dreame A2 is a resounding success. Its ability to mow completely cordless, its sophisticated artificial intelligence for obstacle detection and mapping, and its technical innovations like in-wheel motors and the Edge Master system, make it an exceptional product. It brilliantly takes the technologies implemented in robot vacuums and adapts them to the garden, a risky bet but perfectly pulled off by Dreame. While a rotofil will always be necessary for the most delicate finishing touches, the A2's autonomy and efficiency are unrivaled. This is the robot lawnmower we've been waiting for, and it doesn't disappoint.
